Venezuela kicks off procurement of Russian rifles

During a ceremony at the Venezuelan Ministry of Defense, Minister
Jorge Luis García Carneiro signed an agreement entered
into by Venezuela and the Russian Federation to purchase 100,000
Kalashnikov AK 103 assault rifles.
Russian Ambassador to Venezuela Mikhail Orlovets, and representatives
of both nations attended the ceremony that took place in Simón
Bolívar Hall, Ministry of the Defense.
General García Carneiro reported that the deal accounting
for USD 54 million involves procurement of 100,000 AK 103 rifles;
2,000 manuals, gauges, rifle belts, bayonets, and ammo clips,
the Bolivarian News Agency (ABN) said.
Individual rifles amount to USD 386.22. The first delivery
of 28,000 weapons will be made next October. The remainder
will arrive in December 2005 and March 2006.
