Telesur to be on air in open signal
Hemispheric TV network Telesur is moving from a cable, satellite
channel to open-signal broadcasting as from next Friday, DPA
reported.
The TV network, a joint property of the governments of Venezuela,
Argentina, Uruguay and Cuba, will air in Caracas on channel
51, following the recent procurement of Canal Metropolitano
(CMT) by a private group.
Telesur plans in the medium term include the opening of a
sports channel and an international news agency, as part of
an expansion schedule, reported TV news channel Globovisión.
Andrés Izarra, Telesur chair, hailed the move as "a
new step in favor of information democratization."
