Monsignor José Luis Azuaje, member of the Venezuelan
Bishops' Conference (CEV) and chair of Caritas Venezuela,
said they are launching a campaign called Sharing 2007 intended
to design strategies to curb daily violence in Venezuela.
"Nowadays there are many expressions such as motherland,
freedom, right, religion, citizens, and people that are instilled
with a meaning not so beautiful and fraternal."
He claimed that violence results from "induced" needs that
turn people into compulsive consumers "of fashion and junk."
"The so-called global market is a lie creating inequalities
and exclusion. It is a lie that makes evil necessary to survive,
such as the arms race to preserve peace or the lie of attaining
wealth without a good job, social welfare or legal security."
